The Journey to “It Can’t Happen Here”: A Presentation on the Art of Adaptation

A lecture on how different narrative forms work and how one medium can be “adapted” into another, with examples from past and present, including adaptations (and source material) of such films as “King Lear,” “Romeo & Juliet,” “300,” “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” and the author’s own stage adaptation of the Sinclair Lewis novel, “It Can’t Happen Here,” to give an in depth view of the adaptation process.

主讲人简介：

Bennett Cohen received an MFA in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama, and has written for theater, film, and journalism, including movies for Showtime, the USA Network, and Paramount Television, as well as the non-fiction book The Zebra Murders, and has worked in feature film development for Disney. He has also taught Playwriting at Yale University and Screenwriting at UCLA, and has lectured on films and other forms of narrative writing at various universities across China.
